Stepping Stones is a program that meets twice a month on Wednesday nights for children who are in pre-school through 4th grade. This is a relatively simple program, but it is an integral part of the children’s ministry for Grand Avenue.

This is a fun time for the children in our ministry, but it is also an important teaching time. This semester we have been following the theme, “God’s Story for Our Lives,” and we have been using different colors each week to tell a different part of the biblical narrative. Stepping Stones is a great time to teach the Bible to the kids, but it is also a non-threatening environment for newcomers to come and see what our children’s ministry is like.
Helping out with this ministry has been an interesting area of growth for me. I have never really spent any time doing children’s ministry before this semester. I have certainly had my hands full with helping out at Children’s Church and Stepping Stones, and I have become a lot more confident and comfortable working with kids through these ministries.
We have Stepping Stones tonight, and we are going to have a huge Christmas celebration to finish out this semester. This will be my very last Stepping Stones here at Grand Avenue, and I am going to miss it a lot.
I am going to miss kids like, Jacob, Ezra, Riley, Noah, Rylan, Logan, Adam, Emily, Chase, Carley, Zach, and so many others. I’ll miss their hyper activity, their constant barrage of questions, the way they treat me like a jungle gym, and all the crazy games we have played this semester.
This is the beginning of the end for my internship…and I am already pretty sad. I wish there was some way for me to stay…

I’m picturing you as a jungle gym. Cute. I’m so glad you had such a good experience at Grand Ave.
